I have been volunteering at the WC tent for race personnel the last few days. My supervisor is from Beaver Creek , lived there since 1981. He was impressed with Our Mountain and town and commented that we had a pretty good thing going. I told him what our City Council was proposing with the Comprehensive Plan. He shook his head a said once you allow this kind of growth to happen it will never stop and you will loose everything you moved here for. One of the other workers is a SunValley City Council member . He told me he prefers not to get involved in Ketchum politics. Basically said Ketchum is crazy!
The declaration that "Ketchum is crazy" by a Sun Valley City Council member is absurd from someone, along with the mayor, populating a governing body that is clearly one of the lamest in the history of this valley. Keith Saks the only individual having the requisite knowledge of code to understand "The Criminal Conspiracy at Ellsworth Inn" by Michelle Griffith and the current Hailey City Administrator was in violation of not only multiple municipal codes but Idaho statute demanding transparency.
Having twice attended SV Council meetings in a failed attempt to stop the sanctioning by that Council and Mayor of an intentional violation of the Hillside Ordinance, it appeared to be simply rich old white people pretending to be a big deal, simply puppets of SVCO who will press to build condos on every square inch of open space remaining in that jurisdiction, including the hillside opposite Dollar Mountain, which previous leaders saw fit to preserve as open space. At least after being called out for their failures to observe code in their dirty-dealing, they had enough sense to hire a City Attorney, no doubt paying him bank to do nothing. "May Her" Ruth Leider no doubt rolling over in "Her" grave.
So, Ketchum is providing the grocery stores, a Mountain Rides terminal, subsidized housing, and every other resource critical to community function, while SV is going to "rubber-stamp" approval of resort expansion and a zillion condos putting even more pressure on those resources and associated added costs to Ketchum taxpayers, while SV just hoards more tax revenue without those costs. Profit privatized, risk socialized. SV and SVCO having more influence in shaping Ketchum than it's citizens. Do whatever you have to people to stop any upzoning out Warm Springs or in West Ketchum.
Today's IME reporting exposes Hailey as another unwilling target of even more over-development in addition to the disgusting "rubber-stamp" mess elected officials and Horrorwitch have already created in the community. Insisting it is going to happen, like it or not, while illegally expanding an airport required by the Dual Path Mandate to be relocated when the footprint and passenger loads reach what has already been exceeded, despite all the parsing and lies.
Just because there is unlimited demand does not mean it is incumbent on residents to subsidize the trashing of their home by greedy real estate and resort interests.
Once again, the profoundly ignorant vertically integrated retrograde culture of the tax-exempt corporation operating out of SLC valuing only money, remains greedily invested in the ancient dogma of "Manifest Destiny" and 12th Century haute bourgeoisie social structure, perfectly aligned ideologically with "dirty donnie" another real estate developer. Besides, the traffic infrastructure - ROADS - will never be able to handle the projected increase in population from malignant growth, something competent leaders used to carefully consider.
THIS MALIGANT GROWTH AGENDA ALSO TOTALLY NEGLECTS THE FACT THAT THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD A RESIDENCE HERE ARE MEMBERS OF AN EFFETE ECONOMIC ARISTOCRACY WHO CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR THEMSELVES, EACH ONE REQUIRING TWENTY-FIVE MEMBERS OF A SLAVE CLASS, ONCE AGAIN WITH HIGHER LEVELS OF MELANIN AND DARKER SKIN, WITH NO PLACE TO LIVE.
If you are under fifty and love this place, step up and run for elected office to stop this malignant growth agenda - "Aspenization - destroying our fair valley.
Fantastic idea to put up housing at the St Luke's parking lot instead of the entrance to Ketchum at the Lift Tower property. Great to provide covered parking for the St Luke's employees and a perfect place to add workforce type high density housing without changing the character and feel of Ketchum.
Another housing initiative that the public has gotten no report on is the units that have been build under the FAR (Floor Area Ratio)agreements. There are quite a few that were built under the initial code that required deed restricted units to be built into the development to receive increased building rights. I remember seeing the list once and it was close to 100 units! This was a successful method of striking a balance between creating deed restricted housing in larger buildings and retaining the small town character of Ketchum. And it didn't require any long drawn out negotiations or tax dollars!
Your main premise that the city cares more about tourists than locals rings more true with each article- how do we reverse the city’s predatory strategy? 1&W seemed a small victory but was it?
Thanks, Kris. Also like your concerns re BCRD contributing $500K for 6.5 miles of bike trails through rattlesnake county. That works out to almost $78,000/mile, about the same as if in Central Park.
The same way they do here...and it worsens in the summer. Here It computes to around 300/sq.mile, Bill, so it's not nearly as noticeable as Manhattan. The distinction here vs your analogy is that many workers below the poverty line don't live in Blaine. IMO, they are the smarter ones....

Like your piece here, Billy, excepting the paragraph in ALL CAPS. Suggest you edit it OUT...?

I’ve shared the idea with everyone I know at SLWR. Hopefully someone will take the ball down the field.
Every time I visit SL/s, the parking lot is full??

LOL. FAR...aka as Flat Roof Appearance (FRA).

Ditto for the county and "Hailey Hot Springs," yes?
I am curious to know how many construction workers and service personnel live in Manhattan?
Manhattan
most densely populated county in the USA
70,825 people /sq mile
median household income $101,078
16.5% live below the poverty line
hope that helps
Thanks, Kris. Also like your concerns re BCRD contributing $500K for 6.5 miles of bike trails through rattlesnake county. That works out to almost $78,000/mile, about the same as if in Central Park.
So how do the 16.5% afford to live there?
