Perry, do you know how much of the Bluebird funding came from the federal funds which are forcing the low income limits?
Even though it would be fewer housing units, wouldn't it be better for the city or one of these housing authorities to own the next building (without the federal funds), and rent it to essential workers only?
And what about having the essential workers currently on the waiting list participate in defining what type of unit they'd actually rent?
Sue, all of that makes eminent sense. None of that is happening in City Hall. My take is that Ketchum's housing budget has been hijacked for ideological rather than practical purposes (with comments like Bluebird has to go in the center of Ketchum so rich people know that there are working people), but that it is conveniently aligned with the Aspenization program. I don't expect it to change until we replace the Troika and reform the staffing at City Hall.
But do you have the answer on the federal funding? We need to make sure people have facts and not just outrage. Getting the actual numbers on retired people, essential workers etc was great.
I don't think we should look for Federal funding for these projects. We all pay Federal Income Taxes at a much higher rate than state or local. To fund local projects like the Bluebird is hardly of Federal interest. As we see from DOGE, there has been a whole lot of misuse of Federal funds and this needs to stop. Bluebird is hardly a valid project for our country to fund. IMHO.
