I agree. If Ketchum's present city government adopts the upzoning of density in residential areas and colludes with The Resort as a part of that, it is the final step to Enshittification of the North Valley of Blaine. The past as we loved it will be over and gone forever.
I wish you would include the Light Industrial as the best option to Rezone for Work Force housing AND Live-Work for single story and multiple story buildings in the LI. Live-Work would provide small businesses a 2 for 1! Plus NO issues regarding parking as every commercial building provides their own adequate parking! The city owns vacant properties in the LI. Use these for housing and Live-Work for our community.
Another thing that bugs me about Ketchum's current approach to housing is that none of what is being created is for the employees of the city! Yes, city employees can apply if they meet the federal guidelines, but with the amount of Ketchum tax dollars that are being used to create these housing units, providing housing to city employees should be a priority.
The City Council could be viewed as hypocrites regarding their own employees. They put their lower end wage employees into the "trap of the middle" where they are paid just too much to qualify for the City's Bluebirds, but not really a living wage. It is ironic that the City is providing housing for nannies and SVC employees rather than taking care of essential city workers.
I pray 🙏 for your strength of mind and heart to continue your passion for the community you love! Stay strong 💪 and I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
How many "essential workers" does Ketchum require? How many "non-essential workers" are needed? In your mind`s eye where would "non-essential workers", the old, the challenged, students and the needy live? Is there a racial component to discriminating between the two?
Kris, those are great questions. The City does not know because they have never bothered to find out. Their housing plan is about units rather than people. We, of course, need to take care of our neighbors who cannot care for themselves. And, via our incredible network of non-profits we do a good job of it.

When I see this number, and scan the weekly obits of my old friends, looks like this problem is solved.
